There are 38 places here in Floyd Co. for under $150,000 that are listed on Realtor.com and I know of at least a few others that are FSBO's such as the place next door to me - 3 bedroom, 2 bath about 6 years old on just over an acre $125,000.

Most people here don't lock their doors and leave the car keys in the car.

$150 K in central/northern/eastern CT

a 2 bedroom 1100 square foot townhouse-built in the 80s or 90s. A garage, 1.5 baths.

A very small starter home needing some fix up might be had for the same amount in some towns.

In Boise, $150k will actually currently get you a pretty nice starter house, or an older, larger house. I did a search in our MLS for current listings in Boise/Meridian from $100k to $150k (gets rid of the dumps) and still got 930 listings. 50 of those are over 2000 sq.ft.

Around Lubbock, Texas, $150,000 will buy a 5 bedroom, 3 bath, 2 car garage 2,600 square foot brick home in a good part of town, or if you want to live out of town (up to 20 miles), it will buy a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 2 car garage, 2,743 square foot brick home on five acres and you can stick $60,000 back in your pocket. And if you want to live 40 miles out of town, I know of a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage, +2,500 square foot brick home on over 3 acres for under $59,000.
