It sounds like a water problem to me, but a back yard drainage problem, not a water under the house water problem. I have to wonder if there would be any water under the house if the back yard was drained properly.
That makes sense to me. A cracked foundation makes sense too, and that is probably not necessarily any big deal. (At least not always. I bet foundation cracks are common in many if not most houses.)

I am in a suburb of Louisville, Ky. lived in three bedroom, one bath, home for 50 years. My house sits down from side road and also from front main road. I have crawl space maybe 5ft high with vents in both ends. It is muddy in crawl space with a puddle here and there, no leaks from plumbing, that has just all been replaced with PVC. I have never watered my yard since I have lived here and have had the water company test and they say it is ground water. I am elderly with no income and wonder if there is something I could do to rid the water from crawl space. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS
