The very first pie I ever made won the Blue Ribbon at a State Fair. I used Granny Smith and Pink Lady. Funny thing is... I hate pie! (I don't like warm fruit or pie crust.)

Since 30 years I use Cortland apples, because I like their texture and their aroma!

I use a combination of Royal Galas and Granny Smith. Really excellent.
