While I have cooked a turkey breast in the slow cooker and it is ineed very tender....my method of choice is smoked in the weber grill using apple wood. It is soooooo good that way!
If you have prepared a turkey breast using a slow cooker (crock pot), what did you think of it? And if you liked it, how did you prepare it?
the texture is just not the same. Safe the crock pot for boiling your potatoes before you mash them or making your soup the next day. smoking one is a different story, noting is much better than smoked turkey..
When we buy free-range turkeys from our favorite farmer, the kind that don't have any injected saline solution or preservatives, the only way to go is to roast them.
When we get the packaged kind from the store (which we do occasionally, as our farmer friend doesn't always have a batch of turkeys ready for the butcher), I do prefer to do them in the crockpot. That cooks out a lot of the added "stuff" that tends to make store-bought turkeys way too salty for our tastes.
I can now answer my own question (I'm the OP). I slow cooked a turkey breast last night and didn't like it. I hated the texture and the taste was bland.
Back to roasting for the big day! Will freeze the meat from the slow cooked one and use later in casseroles, etc.
