Default Anyone grilled Portobello (Portabella) mushrooms before?

We're having a mixed grill BBQ this weekend, and I plan to grill some of those big portobello mushrooms - I've never prepared them this way but have seen some cooking shows where they grilled them and they looked delish, but I just can't remember what they marinated them with.

I have googled some recipes for this, but I was hoping to find someone who has tried and liked a recipe themselves that they might share here. Thanks in advance to any response!

I've grilled smaller mushrooms in a little lemon juice, olive oil, garlic and fresh italian parsley. I don't see any reason it wouldn't be just as delicious on larger shrooms!

Mix balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, oregano, salt/pepper in plastic zip bag and put in mushrooms-make sure covered and turn bag a few times while marinating. Remove and grill-delicious.

This is similar to what Judogl44 described. The dressing is good on salads or cold vegetables too. I'm probably too late but hope you'll try it sometime:

GRILLED PORTOBELLO MUSHROOMS - serves 4
1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1/4 cup minced shallots or green onions
1 TBL minced garlic
1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
1/2 cup light corn syrup (Karo)
1 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 cups olive oil
4 portobello mushrooms
8 asparagus spears, peeled & blanched
1 tomato, diced
8 oz Gorgonzola cheese

combine first 9 ingredients in processor or blender. With motor running pour in oil in a thin stream. Blend until emulsified. If dressing separated before serivng, mxi with a whisk. Set aside. Peel outer skin from top of mushrooms. Remove stem. Marinate mushrooms & asparagus in dressing for 24 hours. Grill or broil top side of mushrooms for 2-3 minutes. (Grilling can be done ahead of time.) Heat oven to 400°. Place mushrooms in baking pan. Top with asparagus, tomato & Gorgonzola. Pour 3-4 TBL reserved dressing over top. Bake 7-8 minutes or until heated through.

If any mushrooms are for grilling...it would be the Portobello!
The texture is that of a steak....really fleshy, and they turn out really good, hold up well on the grill.
Use some of the seasonings/ dressings some other CD members suggested....and you will be amazed on how delish it will turn out!
Have fun at your BBQ!!!

I usually make grilled portobello sandwiches. I use an English Muffin as the bread and add roasted peppers as well.

Grill them plain and then toss with saalt and pepper, herb oil or a vinagrette. You might want to rempove the gills first. I don't like marinading because it just soaks up a lot of oil and makes the grill flare up.
