So the chocolate has to be liquid. Anyone know how its done. It sounds like something that should be real easy but I don't know where to start and what kind of chocolate to buy.

Since marshmallows are so sweet, I'd buy a block of Baker's semi-sweet or bittersweet (if you like dark) chocolate. It's in the baking section of the grocery store and comes in what looks like an oversize (thick) chocolate bar, in a box. The brand name is Baker's.

You can put it in a microwave safe bowl and nuke it, but you've got to be very careful. It might not appear to be melted but if you put a spoon in, you'll see that it is. I'd start with 30 seconds. Take the bowl out and see how melted it is. If it's not quite there yet, do another 10 seconds. Test it again. Not done? Another 10 seconds. Continue until melted. Just make sure that you keep testing it (stir) because, really, it might not appear to be melted but is. If you keep nuking it, you'll just burn it.

You can also do the double-boiler method. If you don't have a double-boiler, just boil some water in a pot -- about 1/4 of the way up. When the water is boiling, lower the heat to low temp. Put the chocolate in a smaller pot (or a bowl) and sit that on top of the larger pot while the water is simmering on low. The heat and steam of the water will melt the chocolate in the pot or bowl above it. Stir, stir, stir continually until melted.

Since you sounds like you have not done this before it may be easier to simply buy the container of Bakers melting chocolate. It looks like a container of frosting and all you do is put the container in the microwave. You can melt the bakers chocolate but it can be an eyelash between done and overcooked.

No need to go to the store. You probably have everything required to make chocolate fudge sauce in your fridge and pantry already.

1-1/2 cups sugar
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup milk, half-n-half, or cream
1/2 cup butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt

Combine sugar, cocoa, and dairy in a saucepan. Bring slowly to a low boil. Stir in the butter and simmer for five minutes or so until it begins to thicken. Take off the heat. Stir in vanilla extract and salt. Store in a tightly sealed container in the fridge. Will thicken as it cools.
