So what are you cooking?

For me, I am having seasoned crock pot black eyed peas, turnip greans with turnips and southern homemade cornbread. I still need to figure out what kind of meat? For appetizers stuffed jalapeños (cream cheese with sundried tomatoes, wrapped in bacon and smoked on the grill.

So what say CD forum chefs?

Probably some red wine and maybe I'll bake some chocolate chip cookies.

Whatever I find in the kitchen that looks good at that moment.
We don't do special dinners and such for New Years Eve so it is just another day for us.

I have cravings for pasta. Spaetzle and something around it such as chicken and mushrooms in cream and lots of bunny food aka salad.

That is more like what we have on New Years day. For NY eve we have mostly stack type of food. We are not going anywhere or having company, just the two of us and football. We are having left over pizza from Christmas eve and left over chicken wings. I might put out a couple other appetizer types of things like a cheese ball or whatever.

We've always used up the (frozen) left-over turkey from Thanksgiving on New Year's ...

California Chili (Baja Buzzard)

1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper -- (1/2 to 1)
1/2 cup chopped onion -- (1/2 to 1)
2 clove garlic -- minced
28 ozs stewed tomatoes -- not drained
3 c turkey -- cooked and cubed
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp cilantro -- (or 1 teaspoon coriander)
1 tsp crushed red pepper
1/8 teaspoon hot sauce -- or more
1 splash red wine
Optional: (depends on how many people you want to feed)
14 ounce to 28 ounces black beans -- drained and rinsed
14 ounces corn -- rinsed and drained

Oil or spray the crockpot. Throw it all in a crockpot, give it a stir, and cook on low for a minimum of 4 hours, maximum 8 hours. My crockpot is an oldie, it doesn't cook real hot like the newer ones. Toppings: Shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped white onion or green onion, jalapenos, etc.

Just chop some sun dried tomatoes fine mix with cream cheese , I let it sit overnight so flavors marry. De seed some large jalapeños'stuff them and wrap with bacon. Thats it!

I decided the meat would be chicken fried steak.
