Martha Stewart has a quick, great tasting recipe for "cheez-its" called cheddar bits. Cheddar cheese is pretty inexpensive especially this time of year. Buy in bulk and freeze it.

thanks, I love to cook and love to try new things, but when it comes to crackers I will stick with what the have in the store thank you. There are just too many varieties to bother with starting from scratch.

That's your opinion of course. I already stated why I make them in my OP. Wasn't telling anyone to make them, just offering a recipe in case they did.

momtothree I too love making my own crackers at times. We add sometimes caraway seeds,cumin seeds,sometimes I put Indian spices in the dough,or dill,cheese,nuts and they are gone so fast,my family enjoys them

My oldest wants a red curry and scallion one next batch. That will be interesting.

You could easily argue the same about cookies, however, to many people, ones made from scratch are tastier than mass- produced.
