That's very interesting. I've never heard or read that. When mom taught me to make pastry, she did tell me to use as little water as possible so that it wouldn't be tough. I wonder if the little, old lady down the street--who made the best pie crust I've ever eaten in my life--used vodka. Really, I think it was the lard.
America's Test Kitchen came up with this idea some time ago. My DH doesn't like pie so I haven't tried it but glad to see it catching on.
