Makes a great hearty soup as is, or you can use this recipe as a base. There are only 3 ingredients.
1 package of 13 bean soup (throw away the flavor packet if it has one)
2 smoked ham hocks (one works if it's big)
Water
Soak beans overnight.
Put ham hocks in slow cooker
Pour beans over ham hocks
Pour in just enough water to cover beans and ham hocks
You can also add a few bay leaves if you want. Cook until the largest beans are tender. Usually takes about 8 hours on low in my slow cooker. I usually stir once around the halfway mark, but you don't really have to if you added enough water.
Discard ham bones (and bay leaves if you used them) and enjoy.
