Prepare Butterscotch or Orange Sauce. Prepare unbaked pie shell. Line pie plate with pastry, making a high fluted rim. Butterscotch Sauce
Combine 1/4 cup butter or margarine, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 T corn syrup. Cook and stir over low heat until mixture comes to boil. add 3 T. water and bring to boil again. Boil 1-2 minutes. remove from heat and add 1/2 t. vanilla. Cool.
Orange Sauce
Combine 1/2 cup orange juice, 3/4 cup sugar, cook and stir over low heat, boil 1 minute. Add another 1/4 cup orange juice, 2 T. butter or margarine, and 1 t. orange rind. Mix well. Cool.
Batter:
1 1/4 cups Swans Down cake flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 t. vanilla
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
3 T. chopped nuts or coconut
Sift dry ingredients over shortening in bowl. Add milk and vanilla. Beat 2 minutes. Beat in egg for 1 minute or 150 strokes.
Pour batter into pie shell. Gently pour sauce over batter. Sprinkle with nuts or coconut.
Bake 350 for 50-55 mins.
1 baked pie shell
In top of double boiler,
Beat 3 egg yolks very light, add
Juice and rind of 1 lemon
3 T. hot water
1/2 cup sugar
pinch salt
Cook and stir in double boiler until thick.
Cool slightly.
Beat 3 egg whites with 1/2 cup sugar, until stiff
Fold egg whites into lemon mixture
Pour into baked pie shell
Bake 425 for 10 mins.
That's a good idea. I just made the lemon coconut bars yesterday. I think I would leave out the dates next time, because they're so sweet.

I was going to say that dates in any dessert make it way too sweet. I have used dates in smoothies or as the main sweetener & it was still too sweet....So, I think either you have to eliminate the dates or decrease the sugar.
In any case, I still think that dessert sounds & looks yummy (but without the dates) Great picture!
Cream well:
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
Add:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 t. soda
1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. cloves
1/2 t. cinnamon
2 large mashed bananas
2 T. milk
Cook 3/4 cup macaroni in boiling salted water.
Add cheese sauce made of;
2 T. butter
3 T. flour
1/2 t. salt
1 1/2 cups milk
Cheese, enough to make very tasty.
Mix well and put in casserole with buttered crumbs on top.
Bake in oven.
