I will be trying it for my GDs graduation party, but I can't test drive it first because it makes too much for the two of us.
I DETEST that awful yellow glop, made with banana pudding and vanilla wafers, but this recipe has neither, so I think it might be good.

Banana Pudding

2 pkgs Chessmen or Lorna Doone cookies
5 oz pkg French vanilla instant pudding
2 cups milk
15 oz can sweetened condensed milk
8 oz cream cheese, softened
12 oz Cool Whip, thawed
6-8 ripe bananas

Line a 9x13 pan with a layer of cookies.
Mix pudding with milk according to package instructions
In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese with condensed milk, fold in coolwhip. Fold in pudding.

Spread mixture over cookies. Top with another layer of cookies cover and chill.

Oh! Wait! I forgot to use the bananas.

I haven't used that recipe, but I'd use whipped cream if I did.

So the difference is whipped cream and cream cheese and condensed milk.

I make the normal banana pudding that most people seem to love. I like the idea of adding Whipped cream to make it more lighter and fluffy. I might try that next time. Too many sick people in my family that might not like rich dessert

Yes, she says you can use whipped cream instead. Although I'm usually a purist, I don't mind Coolwhip in recipes.

I don't know how the traditional one is made, but I know I don't like fake banana flavor. I may still be traumatized by the bright yellow banana pudding, dumped over soggy vanilla wafers that I saw at a Chinese buffet recently.

Yes & its awesome!
It goes fast- everyone loves it.
I don't like cool whip,
So I use whipped cream....
I was originally unsure of the chessman
cookies in the recipe-
(the original banana
pudding recipe i'm used to uses vanilla wafers.)

But the chessman hold up better,
don't get soggy & are wonderful

I love Paula Deens recipes

Traditional banana pudding is always made with vanilla pudding. The bananas in the pudding give it the banana flavor.

Yes it is. That's what my grandma used.

So, how much whipping cream would make the equivalent of 12 oz of Coolwhip? A half pint, or a pint?
