Thanks. It's a surprising twist. But really posted to add that I feel stupid for misspelling "Hass." The variety was developed near where I grew up so I'd expect to get slammed by the natives. I know, relax. Relax, I know.

Carefully cut the avocado in half and remove the seed. Put three toothpicks in the seed equidistant around the largest circumference. Place the seed on top of a drinking cup and fill the cup with water. Keep the water full. With any kind of luck, in a week or so a quite pretty plant will grow from the seed.
Take the rest of the avocado, chop it up, and put it in the compost heap.
IMO, they taste like balsa wood soaked in vegetable oil. Compost is the proper place for them.
