I need a recipe for lemon-flavored glaze for sugar cookies that hardens to a stackable, glossy finish. I have a powdered sugar glaze that does just that. But when I add lemon juice or zest to it, the glaze loses the hardening property and stays wet and sticky, which is not what I need.

I don't want anything remotely frosting-like, or sticky to the touch. Must harden to a shiny, dry finish.

I use often lemon icing using this guideline

100 g /1 cup sifted icing sugar
2-3 tbsp lemon juice
only if too thick or dry add (1 tbsp hot water)

and mix it well with a hand mixer til smooth

I never had a problem

I also do this with my Baseler Leckerli at Christmas time

My mother used to use icing sugar with lemon juice and nothing else. It was not soft or sticky.

Unfortunately, I don't know the exact ratio.

Confectioners sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice, zest also. Add liquid in very small amounts to sifted sugar. It is supposed to be stiff and hard to stir. Use a bag to pipe icing then allow to cool. Refrigerate for an hour to harden, if needed.
