What do you like to do with turmeric?

So far I have used it with lentils, with rice, and in butternut squash soup. Today I will try it with beans and barley.

I'm interested in trying other ways of using it, also.

It is good in most any hot dishes you make. If you use it in dishes with pepper then it will also give it the best nutritional and anti-inflammatory effect. I also use it a lot when I make scrambled eggs dishes with onions, mushrooms, spinach, pepper, etc. I put it in my homemade chicken soups and chili.

I even mix it in oatmeal sometimes with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, ground cloves, etc.

I also sometimes add it to my spinach and blueberry smoothies.

Interesting topic. I have tasted turmeric and I have a hard time thinking of things I eat that turmeric would enhance. I have been making dog treats with turmeric, pepper, and coconut oil for years. I have tasted them too(all human ingredients) and they taste OK but not something I would just sit down and eat!

In any daal/lentil/bean soup or some of the vegetable subzi/ curry dishes.I usually add turmeric also in parathas,Indian spiced meatballs, keema Shepherd's Pie.

What is also tasty melting butter in a pot ,adding turmeric, salt, black pepper, fry for a second, add thin chicken breast pieces, fry on both sides, add thinly sliced red Bell pepper,a bit of water and let simmer til done.Served with basmati rice.Delicious and pretty to look at.

I am not a fan of the taste of turmeric either that is why I hide it in hot dishes, stir fries, smoothies, etc and I don't use too much of it either so it doesn't overpower a dish. I use it mostly for its anti-inflammatory benefits so I just try to add it to as many dishes as possible where I am also using pepper.

I add turmeric to my homemade chicken soup/broth. It gives it a lovely color.

Turmeric can go in smoothies too - blend in with apple, pear, and lemon for a good cleanse.

I like it with beans, in dishes with cumin, in a tea with ginger, with tomatoes.

Most Indian fried cabbage dishes have quite a bit of turmeric. We love this for a side dish.

ETHIOPIAN VEGETABLE STEW
Serves four as an entrée, 6-8 as a side dish.

2 med. to large potatoes
2 carrots
2 yellow onions
¼ head cabbage
Handful fresh green beans
5-8 cloves garlic, minced
2-3 TB vegetable oil

2 tsp. Ground ginger
2 tsp. Turmeric
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. Black pepper
2 C. water

Cut vegetables into bite size pieces (cabbage can be larger as it wilts so much). Throw into a pot with the oil and add the spices and the water.
Bring to a boil and simmer covered, stirring occasionally, about 30-40 minutes until potatoes are tender.
Adjust seasonings and serve hot. Delicious served with cottage cheese and a green salad tossed with a lemon vinaigrette.
