If he likes fried shrimp or fried clams, fried oysters might be the safest route.
If he likes hot sauce, make him try one raw, ice cold.
Thanks JK, I would about have as much luck getting him to eat one raw as I would getting him to eat tripe or something like that. I will, most likely end up frying them. I have checked some recipes for deep fried We don't do deep fried much but I will do a sorta in between probably.
Hands down (for me) the best is grilled. You could also oven roast them. This is for oysters on the half shell. If your oysters are out of the shell, you could probably mimic this recipe by placing them in ramekins or an oven safe dish.
thanks everyone. They were out of the shell when we got them. It just happened I watched "best thing I ever ate" on the cooking channel yesterday afternoon and they showed a couple of restaurants known for oysters. I ended up sautteing them in butter and garlic; topped them, believe it or not, with grated cheese. They were really good, but not good enough to pay the price they go for in the fresh fish market. I didn't see a lot of difference in them and mussels. Mussels are about 1/2 the price or even less.

I can't stand mussels. Don't like raw oysters either. A friend of ours gave me a recipe that her son taught her similar to yours OP.
Shuck open the oysters, spread them in a baking pan in the shell, slice or grate a bit of raw garlic on them, spoon a tsp or more of salted butter over them, and then top with grated cheddar cheese. Place the pan 1 level down from the top rack and broil them 2-3 minutes. Delish! (this is good in a baking pan with chunks of raw lobster too)
