For me, itís not ranch if it doesnít have buttermilk, so Iíd disagree with PW on that being an optional ingredient, but with all those fresh herbs Iím sure itís great.

I agree, that is what ranch dressing is all about. The recipe sounds almost identical to the one weight watchers used to recommend about 50 years ago. If made with buttermilk it is really good. I will have to add, I am not a lover of Pioneer Woman. I used to enjoy watching her when I had the time. But never found her recipes all that interesting. There were a couple of hints I took from her though.

This recipe looks good, although quite time consuming in its preparation. (I have to admit that I cheat; I use a Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch dressing packet, mixed with buttermilk and mayo.)

Sometimes is fun to make things yourself and it can be quite good too. I always question if it's worth the time and money to put together things like this considering there are lots good brands of ranch dressing at the market. It sounds like a delicious recipe though and I might just try it myself.

I love homemade salad dressings! Not only are they better for you they just taste so fresh. I agree that having buttermilk for ranch dressing is a bit better.

The reason for making my own dressing is simple. We are trying to eat clean without any preservatives and crap. Mostly all salad dressings in the bottle have added preservatives and Xanthan gum or Guar gums in them. We made a decision about 6 months ago not to put that stuff in our bodies. I won't be making homemade creamy dressings all that often because when we usually have a salad I used rice wine vinegar and olive oil. I did not use buttermilk because I did not have any but will try it next time I make this dressing. I spend more time reading labels in stores than I ever did before.

You can marinate chicken in any leftover buttermilk (I like to spike the buttermilk with tabasco).
