I’m Italian, too, grew up with sauce on Sundays with meatballs, braciole, the works. We never called it gravy, either. It was just macaroni & sauce, although the sauce part didn’t even need to be mentioned.

Now, my husband is also Italian, and his family did call it gravy. It might be an Italian regional thing, as his family originated in Sicily, mine in Calabria.

Sorry, I don’t have any sauces to share for the OP, but tomato sauce was the first thing that came to mind when I read the thread title!
