I only eat poppy seed bagels, and I prefer them with cream cheese and smoked salmon. If chopped dill has been blended into the cream cheese, so much the better. Sliced "good" tomato, as Ina might specify, in season. No raw onion, please.

If you use dried dill, make it well ahead of time to let the cream cheese soak up its dillness.

Cream cheese. But they also make excellent mini-pizzas, which freeze well. Bagel mini-pizzas make a great heat and eat snack if you make a whole bunch of them for the freezer. Microwave, good and easy, quick meal if you've got kids or a person who works long hours in your family.

I also like them spread with butter and grilled until the butter browns.

I really like them with tuna salad. Then again I think pretty much any bread type thing deserves some tuna salad.

I love a bagel sandwich with deli fixings, but the bagel must be very fresh.

Toasted topped with butter OR mashed avocado, salt & pepper OR melted cheddar.

I always toast bagels.

Besides cream cheese, I like them with just butter. I also like cream cheese, smoked salmon, onion, tomatoes, capers.
