My girlfriend's parents are coming from out of town to visit soon, and I am thinking it would be incredible if I could put together a nice homemade meal for them.

I'm still a bit of a novice in the kitchen, but I am eager to learn. I have the basics down (caesar salad, chicken parm, etc.), so for this meal I want to come up with something slightly more interesting...

They don't have any allergies and we are all fairly adventurous when it comes to trying new dishes.

What would you cook in this situation?? Any advice from the more "seasoned" chefs out there will make my day

If you have the Chicken parm and caesar salad down pat-stick with that-unless you've served it to them before.

Roasted chicken with roasted potatoes and garlic is a simple but delicious meal.

It's funny you mention that, because Caesar Salad and Chicken Parm is exactly what I made them last time

They are Italian and love Italian food, so I am trying to go for something Italian but a "step-up" from the basics. Have any ideas that might match that?

A homemade ravioli?

Manicotti? Stuffed shells?

Eggplant parm or eggplant roll ups? Homemade soup?

Chicken marsala? Homemade gnocci?

Veal picatta-easy with a side of fettucine alfredo.

Good steaks grilled with side of fettucine alfredo.

A nice thick Bolognese sauce?

i second the bolognese sauce--you can use it directly on a nice pasta, either plain or filled (ie ravioli, tortellini)or use it in lasagna--which once you get the sauce done, is SO easy to make!
or you can make a nice grilled shrimp and pasta dish...

Do a lasagna, salad and breadsticks. I like lasagna because you can make it ahead and pop it in the oven while your guests are there and not have to fuss in the kitchen. Your kitchen smells amazing also! Premake a salad, and bake the breadsticks while the baked lasagna is settling and you are set.

Other things I like to fix are to marinate boneless, skinless chicken breasts and then grill them. Serve over pasta that has been tossed in olive oil and basil or any seasoning you want. Serve also with a salad and bread.

Wow, so much great feedback! Lasagna, salad and bread sticks sounds like a great idea to me. And if the kitchen smells great as a result, then that works even better!
