I love the look of Royal icing for cut-out cookies (egg whites, powdered sugar, a drip of glycerin for shine...), but prefer the taste of old-fashioned buttercream icing. Does anyone have a recipe for a compromise? Something that tastes good and enhances the flavor of the cookie, but is easy to decorate with and ends with an attractive cookie?
I'm not sure how well this would work but it was the first thing that came to my mind. Cream cheese frosting. It is easy to work with, tastes great, and can be embellished with emperils or whatever.
