This is kind of embarrassing. I almost started a thread on it before. I was looking at the other thread of foods you eat when no one's around, and I was just wondering if anyone can replicate the filling of those frozen green chile burritos, the ones that only cost about a quarter each!! I would like a healthier version of it, one that I can eat without cowering in shame.

Has anyone done that?

Never really had what you're talking about, but I'm shameful. I use Herdez green tomatillo salsa as a chile verde sauce..and I've fooled bona fide Hispanics who thought it was homemade. I'm not telling though.

I use that Green Chile Enchilada sauce (Las Palmas makes it, and another company - both in yellow cans). And if I'm feeling really inspired, I'll add a small can of diced green chiles.

Mix with either cooked ground beef or frijoles.
Or both.

Thanks for the suggestions. Do they taste very close to those cheapo burritos? I have made a few green chile recipes, but I'm looking for something very specific. And God only knows what is in those burritos!

This won't taste or look like those pre-made little things but here is my version of a green chile burrito.
Warm up a large fresh flour tortilla and lay it on a plate. Spoon on heated re-fried beans, some grated jack cheese, chopped onion, tomato, a few sprigs of cilantro, a very small amount of grated cotilla cheese and lots of sliced and drained pickled jalapenos or Serrano chilies. Leave one side and one end of the tortilla uncovered to allow for easy rolling up tucking the end over for a burrito that you can eat walking around.
For a wet, "eat it on the plate with a fork style" burrito just cover with a good salsa verde either from a can or home made, heated first of coarse. Garnish the plate with some of those hot carrot slices or a radish.
