Default Need help picking cookbook for my son

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good cookbook for my college age son? It would need to have easy to follow recipes since he has not cooked much and frugal ones since he has very little income.

It might sound silly, but "A Man, A Can, A Plan" and the other cook books in that series are great to get college age men cooking. They're low cost, healthy, and mostly come from just throwing food together. Plus they're fun and totally easy to read (pictures!)

Amazon.com: A Man, a Can, a Plan: 50 Tasty Meals You Can Nuke in No Time: David Joachim, The Editors of Men's Health: Books

They have a few editions, and one specifically for microwave cooking. It's from Men's Health, and most of the food is actually really good!

In addition, get him a copy of Joy of Cooking. Not so much for the recipes, as for the techniques. I still, almost 30 years later, after being a professional chef, will pull out Joy occasionally to check something. I actually learned how to boil eggs from that book (though I use a different technique now, Jacque Pepin's, slightly modified), so it's got some really basic stuff in it.

I got Better Homes and Gardens Complete Step-by-Step Cookbook for my step-daughter when she went off to college. It has helped her a lot.

Amazon.com: Better Homes and Gardens Complete Step-By-Step Cookbook (Better homes and gardens books) (9780696001253): Better Homes and Gardens: Books

Or, there is a Good Housekeeping one:

My new favorite basic cookbook is Amazon.com: How to Cook Everything (Completely Revised 10th Anniversary Edition), Completely Revised 10th Anniversary Edition: 2,000 Simple Recipes for Great Food (9780764578656): Mark Bittman: Books. It's simple and perfect. It will become the new classic.

Spiderbear's recommendation for, "A Man, A Can, A Plan" is a great one! My bil has this book and cooked a meal from this cookbook, for us once. It was great!

I was searching for the name of a different cookbook when I stumbled on this
Amazon.com: Look, Dude, I Can Cook!; Four Years of College Cooking Made Easy (9780929636788): Amy Madden: Books
What a great title! I also liked the title Where's Mom Now That I need Her? I don't care for the Starving Students' Cookbook.
