I was helping my mom the other day clean out her things for a garage sell......Wow the things you find! I found this little 50 cent tiny little book with a bunch of cake recipes in it from like 1940-stuffed away in her garage. I was fixing to trash it but my mom saved it from the garbage. Anyways we made this cake called gingerbread cake (more like a spice cake than gingerbread) from the book and it is the best thing ever! It has so much flavor. No need for frosting or anything. I just wanted to share the recipe......I will also post it under lauras thread where everyone has been posting good recipes. Gotta try it!

gingerbread spice cake
2 3/4 cup sifted cake flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cloves
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp nutmeg
2/3 cup shortening
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 2/3 cup mashed bananas (about 4 bananas)
2 tsp vanilla

sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt, and spices together.
cream shortening with sugar till fluffy. Add eggs to shortening mix. Beat well.
Add sifted dry ingredients and bananas alternately in thirds.
stir in vanilla.
Pour into 2 greased 8 or 9 inch pans (we used a 9x13 pan)
bake 350 degrees
bake 35 minutes or till done.
