I just made the dough for these cookies and thought I would share the recipe with everyone. My grandmother always made these. Not only are the cookies delicious, they are inexpensive to make. The recipe came from an old cookbook called Southern Cooking by Mrs. S. R. Dull. (I have three copies of this cookbook -- my grandmother's, my mother's and mine). They are called Mrs. W's Ice Box Cookies. 1 cup butter, 2 cups brown sugar, 1 cup chopped nuts (you can omit, if adding nuts I use pecans), 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour, 1/2 teasoon salt, 1 teaspoon soda, 2 eggs. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and mix well. Sift salt and soda with flour, add nunts, mix into first part. Roll out into a round roll, put into ice box (refrigerator) over night. Turn out on floured board, slice very thin, bake in moderate (350 degree oven) until crisp. This makes five dozen and they are delicious.
Jose Cuervo Christmas Cookies 1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup or brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila
Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl,
check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality,
pour one level cup and drink.
Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter
in a large fluffy bowl.
Add one peastoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point
it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still ok, try another
cup just in case.
Turn off the mixerer thingy.
Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup
of dried fruit.
Pick the frigging fruit off the floor.
Mix on the turner.
If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaters just pry
it loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.
Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who geeves
a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
Add one table.
Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can
find.
Greash the oven.
Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall
over.
Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the
Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the wishdasher.
Cherry Mistmas !

These sound really good, though you say you now have three copies of this cookbook? I would love to have one, if you are willing to part with one want to DM me to talk further. I have most of my Grandma's cookbooks and love collecting old cookbooks! I love recipes that aren't Bisquik or microwave dependent! LOL!

I sure needed this today...I had to finish crying I was laughing so hard to try to finish reading it
AntiquesMA...the cookies sound wonderful...am thinking about maybe some orange rind or extract in them....maybe half dipped in chocolate...
Grannysroost: the cookies are very good with some orange or lemon zest. It seems like they ran the cookie recipe in the paper once with those updates. I have tried both and like the lemon a little bit more.
Blueshire: if these were cookbooks that I had bought I would be delighted to part with one! However, I have to keep them in the family. I know the book is out of print and I have seen it in antique malls. I don't know anyone right now who specializes in older books. If you will remind me after Christmas I'll see what leads I can dig up. It is an awesome cookbook.
I could definitely understand not wanting to part with your mother's or grandmother's. I wouldn't have wanted to do that, but, I really appreciate you keeping and eye out! I will do the same! Delicious cookies, by the way!!! Thank you!
Blueshire, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the cookies! I'm making two more batches of dough in a few minutes. Merry Christmas!
