I was looking through one of my grandmother's cookbooks and thought I would share these. This book was published in the 1920s. I love the names!

English Monkey

1 cup bread crumbs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup soft cheese chips
2 tablespoons of butter
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Soak the bread crumbs in the milk for fifteen minutes. Melt butter and cheese over a gentle heat. When melted, add soaked crumbs, the egg slightly beaten and seasonings. Cook 2 or 3 minutes. Pour over toasted crackers or bread, which has been slightly buttered, or serve from a hot dish with hot biscuit or wheat muffins.

"Ring Tum Ditty"

1/2 lb. American cheese
1 can tomato soup
2 cups rich milk
2 tablespooons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon sugar
Pinch soda

Grate cheese, and when all ingredients are near a boiing point add the cheese. Care should be taken in not letting it boil. An onion and a pinch of mustard may be added. Serve over crackers or toast.

Interesting recipes, thanks for sharing.

I chuckle when I read my grandmother's recipes that call for "39 cent bag of vanilla wafers".

Definitely leads to a lot of guessing lol
