My experience is that in casserole situations, when the recipe calls for corn torts, you need to stick with corn. Corn is more porous and will absorb the liquids, especially if you let it set in the fridge overnight. I love this type of recipe for those corn tortillas that are almost stale because they start to flake a little allowing the flavors in get in each crevice.
I have tried flour tortillas in casserole recipes and they maintained their chewy texture. I like to be able to slice right into the casserole with a fork, more like a lasagna I guess.

Well, my husband has one more chance -- tomorrow -- to get the corn ones because he didn't get them tonight on his way home, even though he asked if I needed him to. He was exhausted after running around, between patients, getting his vandalized car seen to, so I told him to come home. I won't have my car tomorrow -- he'll have it -- so it's up to him to get the corn ones. I'm at his mercy. Or he's at his own mercy. Or corn tortillas are merciless.
Thanks for your knowledge. I hear ya.

You must've been laughing as hard as I was!
I'm only making it tomorrow, but I can't go out tonight/tomorrow because it's a Jewish holiday (aaaaand, that's why I'm making a Mexican casserole to break the fast... HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)
Maybe he'll pick some up on his way home tonight if he doesn't have too many patients. A girl can dream...
