Debsi...the pistachio pudding has nothing to do with the Watergate scandal. The cake was created around the time of the break in and someone decided to name it after the scandal.

As I can recall, my mom did not add nuts of any kind or coconut. I do remember she used a cup of club soda to the recipe.

Wurzig, I think I will use the first recipe you posted and just tweak the recipe by using club soda and dream whip. Also, I couldn't remember if my Mom used white cake or yellow cake mix. I'm still not sure which I want to use here. I am thinking a white cake mix would make the cake look really green as opposed to using a yellow cake mix.
I think I'd use white to get the true color of the cake/recipe.....

Sounds delicious......let us know how it turns out.....

I'm thinking about this for Easter. Actually, I would be happy to have dessert three times a day, but we are slowly nudging towards swimsuit weather.

I loved Watergate salad. I can't say that I've ever had Watergate Cake. I had a friend in another place that used to make some type of cake with 7 Up. It was good but doesn't sound like these recipes. They sound delicious!

I love Dream Whip and haven't looked for it in a while. One of my grocery stores will special order things sometimes if they don't have it in the store. I'll check on that next trip.

Debsi, I remember asking my mom that and she said the recipe came out the same time as the Watergate Scandal and was all the rage...hence, The Watergate Cake. Or so I'm told.

I love this cake btw. All the recipes are similar and I have tried them all different kinds of ways. For the best results, imo, use yellow cake mix instead of white and club soda instead of 7-up. Dream whip over Cool Whip too.

ETA: It still turns out quite green w/ the yellow cake mix and tastes way better imo.
