I know this might be a long shot, but...

When I was in high school, we had a weekend band trip (yes, I was a band nerd! ), and our chaperones made this lemon poppy seed cake mix chicken in dutch ovens, and I remember, to this day, how DELICIOUS it was.

I've been searching for weeks for a recipe even resembling it, and all I can find is lemon poppy seed chicken casserole, which sounds good, but isn't what I'm looking for.

Most of the recipes I'm finding call for crushed Ritz crackers, but the one I had had actual cake mix. It seemed to be boneless, skinless chicken breast with a box of lemon poppy seed cake mix, and some kind of wet ingredient. That's too simple.

Anyone

Wow, I can't even imagine. I'm trying to think of chicken and cake mix and it just doesn't compute. If you find, please post. I would love to see the recipe.

Isn't it funny how we so clearly remember those wonderful things we ate as kids, but once we are grown we can never duplicate them? My dear Mother made the BEST cornbread dressing. I watched her make it dozens of times, but can not replicate it to save my life. My sister and I once even got together and did it exactly as we recalled her doing it and it didn't even come close.

Good luck in finding your recipe.

Wow. A response! Thanks!

I know the recipe sounds weird, but the cake mix doesn't make the dish sweet like you would think.

I know what you mean about not being able to find recipes from your childhood. Fortunate for me, my Mom was (and is) an AMAZING cook, and since I have such a big family full of good cooks, we decided to put together a family cookbook. It has all the best recipes from my childhood plus some I never knew I liked until I made them on my own! It's the most used book in my house, and the pages that I use the most have food stains on them from regular use

Swell idea and one every family should use. I know I wish I had my Mom's and my MIL's best recipes. You watch them cook and just think they will always be around or else like with Mom's dressing, you truly think you can make it just like she did.

I sure hope you can find the recipe. I'm wondering if the cake mix was used as a coating or batter?
