Just thinking out loud, so to speak. Hope it's not too off topic. I'm wondering if this fascination with Asian women is fairly new because when I was school-age, I used to be made fun of by some who thought I looked Asian. I look at my old school pics and I just don't see it. The popular girls would look at me when passing me and call me a derogitory name pertaining to Asians. Now, it seems it's the popular thing to be.

A few years ago, in a PBS discussion about foreign faces in newscasts, a panelist came with some interesting data. His market research showed the US population had a much more positive reaction to a female Asian face than a male one. Of course, some of this was supposedly traceable to the Vietnam war (so they postulated). At that time, most Asian newscasters were female, and I am guessing it is the case even now.

It's because Asian men are routinely emasculated in US society, and have been since post World War I. (And really, one can probably make a case for even earlier) Asian men were portrayed as evil and shady, and Asian women as exotic flowers.
By the time my childhood came around (I was a teen in the 80s) Asian men were portrayed as uber-geeks or kung-fu masters. Both steroetypes were emasculated, never shown to be in romantic situations with women. In fact with the former group, the dating attempts of an Asian male would always be portrayed for laughs - he'd be ridiculed as being hopelessly inept around women.
Only within the last couple of years have I seen Asian men portrayed in movies or on TV as a "regular" person and not a stereotype.
I've dated Asian girls in and out of my country, while living in Japan, and when I travel in Asia for either vacation or business. Just like anywhere else, you can find good and bad guys/girls regardless of what corner of the world we are talking about but we can't ignore that culture/traditions does play its role (big or small role) in an individual. So far, my experiences have been pleasant.
Good thing it's all straightened out by now because I was about to question your friendship! I figured your wife was Asian by the looks of your daughter, but I said to myself: aaaaha, Gudra has seen her and I haven't?! Blasphemy!
