I saw an episode of How I Met Your Mother and in it they were discussing reachers and settlers. I know it's probably really stupid to look for TV shows for insight, but I thought this was interesting. The idea is that, in every relationship, there's a reacher and a settler. The reacher nabs a mate that is out of his/her league and the settler dates down or settles for the reacher. Does this sound true?

That doesn't explain those who are a 'perfect' fit.

Most women today are "reachers" but few are able to get a settler to sign on the dotted line. The competition is that tough.

Of course, they can always wait for him (or someone like him) to come back on the market. By remarrying several times, these men reduce what would otherwise be an epidemic of disappointed women.

No, this sounds like, "Marry someone who loves you more than you love him or her." I don't agree with that either,

IMO leagues exist, but i wouldn't say that everybody is a settler/reacher.

Some relationships must have equal matches.

I think few people get to marry their one true love or loves, and therefore "settle" into wedded misery.

At first glance I thought this thread said Settlers and Ranchers. I'm like WTF does this have to do with Relationships.

Course when I read reachers... a few dirty jokes come to mind.....
