I went out with a guy once who called me by the wrong name all evening. I never bothered to correct him. I never took his calls after that, so I have no idea if he ever figured it out.
Oh, but your title asks, "How many of us are guilty of forgetting names when dating?" So that's why people are confused. I just noticed that.
For me, it helps if I can say the person's name out loud a few times and try to connect it to something else meaningful. Lex wears specs or Her name is Sarah ... Sarah Michelle Geller, dressed in yeller.
Try to nail that name to something so it sticks in your head.
If I met someone who said their name was 4, 52, or 5,321 I'd remember that.
After asking someone a second time for their forgotten name, I give up after that, too embarrassed to ask again, fearful they might think I'm developing dementia.
Oh I've definitely done that. I think everyone does, at least once! That's just a brain fart thing. More of a habit...what naturally rolls off the tongue. Took me a long time to stop that one. Then I started dating a guy with the same name as my ex, many many years later, and THAT really felt weird!
My ex topped me though...he remarried a girl with the same name as me!
I hate to admit itbut I've done it too...twice in one night (lol). The gentleman reminded me of someone my sister went out with. Mine was a "Rick", hers was a "Rich". He was very nice and forgiving....
