I'm sitting in the library typing this and looking at my kitsch and clutter. Looks male to me even though I'm not. No pink or teddy bears anywhere. That's a good thing. I'm realizing I don't like ultra feminine decorating at all.

So traditionally female decor - bad. Male oriented decor - good.
Femininity- bad. Masculinity- good. That's how it seems.

No, things should be gender neutral if there is a male and female living in the house. I think that's pretty fair!

Other than that, poeple are just talking about what home decor styles they like. What's wrong with that? A woman shouldn't make herself like frilly toilet seat covers just to be feminine, that's silly.

And I don't like the whole manly woodsy thing either. A room with with tons of leather and wood grain and a deer head and hunting knife display turns me off almost as much as the country crap I mentioned before. So there, my opinions on home decor aren't sexist. Even though I think that's a silly thing to suggest is sexist.

Country decorating is a popular and common theme and a lot of people seem to be mocking it. It's just interesting. Deer head decor is mostly for lodges so it is more niche.

It just reminds me of the hobby threads in which female oriented hobbies are dismissed as silly.

I wish I had a vintage pink bathroom! We had one in my childhood home and it got ripped out and replaced with cheap 80s plastic crap.

So our bedroom furniture came today and I have started decorating. The red in the photos is slightly brighter than in real life.

Don't know how to respond to this without the risk of sounding immature but: so? Those who don't like it don't care if it's popular or not. That's not going to change thier opinion about whether they find it aesthetically pleasing.

That's because they don't personally like it. And that's allowed, even if it's "unfair" to that style

Again..if you don't like it, you can't make yourself like it to be "fair". You are searching for sexism in completely nonsensical places. Please worry about real women's right issues, where you could make a real difference.

Not at all.

It's just that many men feel ungainly and uncomfortable in a super-girly space.

In many ways I think this couple has the right idea:

He has his man-cave and she has a perfect and quite lovely dollhouse. Bonus points? She apparently did much of the carpentry work herself. I do love a woman who can use power tools.

It was interesting decorating the bedroom, I said to my husband "I know you'll think it's a bit feminine". He replied "That's fine, a bedroom is supposed to be a soft, feminine place".

Gotta love those men who are in touch with their feminine side

He's also a very smart man. He probably realizes that if you feel soft, feminine and sexxxy in your bedroom, that's gonna pay off for him, big time!!!

Anything that lacks personality. Save all the "pretty" gender neutral stuff, for after marriage.

If you like Strawberry Shortcake, then by all means have Strawberry Shortcake posters. If you like playing Softball, then by all means leave a baseball glove out.
