So I was recently having a discussion with someone about what the dark means, in "Tall, Dark, and Handsome". I have been hearing this combination for years, and it just now occured to me that I don't know what dark means. When I hear this phrase I picture "eggs" from the show true blood.
"Tall" and "Handsome" are pretty obvious.
To satiate my curiosity, if you use this phrase, please choose what characteristics you have in mind when you say "Dark". Or just answer in the thread.
When women use the term "tall, dark and handsome", they are talking about a taller guy (over 6 ft), dark hair, handsome. That's always been my perception as described by friends and the way that I would refer to tall dark and handsome.
To me as a female the dark has always been more of an attitude. Someone who is a little more mysterious or edgy , a little brooding and sultry ( which in my experience also goes with dark hair - I have never met a brooding blond... ).
I always associate that phrase with tall and masculine black men. Like ballers for example. Not sure if a white dude or guys of other races can be referred to as "dark". That would be a bit strange.
It means hair colour NOT skin tone. Think of this logically. If it meant skin tone that would mean that a blond man or redhead with a tan would fit the description. Most women are speaking of a man with some shade of brown hair around 6 feet tall and good looking. It does not specify eye colour.
TDH, that's me in all the sense of the word. Tall (6'3), Dark (brown), Handsome (devastatingly).
I see!
