It's the same way women tend to think.

Every night of the week I'm privileged to watch at least 12 young ladies putting on their faces, and let me tell you - they are the scariest, most insecure creatures when it comes to looks. Yes, their work requires them to look good - it is show biz, after all - but 2 hours? Their war-paint kits are on wheels, for Buddha's sake! Our last bouncer got a rupture when he lifted one gal's costume bag. The list of casualties marches on...

Trust me on this one - over-focusing on one's appearance can be fatal.

I mean, c'mon - for some of us...um...distinguished gentlemen, looking good is an inborn ability - we can't help it - it's just what we do - don't hate on us - you don't know us!!!

Sorry - I slip into ghetto-speak when I get upset...

You just proved my point. I said men think they are more attractive than they really are. Women are more insecure about their looks because we are constantly bombarded with images of what women should look like in the media etc.
Simmer down you don't need to get so upset over a freaking post on a message board.
Are you in a relationship? If so I suggest you don't call your girlfriend/wife a narcissistic psychotic when she is getting ready to go somewhere special.

Was it media in ancient Rome? Earlier civilizations? In civilizations today which are still lacking modern amenities such as electricity and plumbing?

Makeup and intricate hairstyles and ornamentation have been around for a long, long time -- just as male posturing has been around for a long, long time.

Sometimes you really don't get to point the finger; sometimes things really just ARE because that's how people are, even if we prefer to pretend we're above all that.

He!! yes. Erotic paintings were the norm in ancient Rome. Every brothel was walled with crude paintings of all forms of sex.

Because many guys think that when a woman pays them attention of any kind, it means she is interested. Also, we women are always telling them to take a chance, so I guess someone tried to take a chance that your humor meant something more than you intended. Just be kind and tell him you want to just be friends.

It is kinda frustrating that when you're nice to a guy and he knows you're single, he assumes you want to jump his bones, but I've come to accept it as better than every man out there finding me repulsive and you just learn to nicely turn them down. Eventually someone you like will think you like him and that's eventually what everyone wants .

when I am having a conversation with an older women perhaps in her 70's or 80's, if I make a joke to lighten the conversation I know she will always subdue her laughter as not to appear immodest.
