This is about the only "place" I refer to my b/f as my SO. Every now and then I bring out that term but I usually just introduce him by his first name. People just assume we're married and after being together 5+ years, it feels like it LOL (lovingly joking here).
"This is my date (insert name)". I always make sure others know what's up, because if he is just a friend I don't like it when others think we are dating.
If you have been seeing someone for a short time, then I would just introduce the person by name or if I felt is necessary and or appropriate I would add friend to the introduction.
