this woman started at my job about 3 weeks ago and tonight she asked me "do you have a girlfriend" We were all sitting around laughing and talking about the relationship of one coworker and then the woman asked me did I have one
Is that because she wants to know for her or someone else? I mean that's not like asing someone-"do you like italian foo?
Could go either way ... with the bit of info ... it comes down to what you said and what she may or you might do next. you should be able to somewhat tell??

If I ever ask a guy if he likes "italian foo" I will barely be able to keep a straight face.
If you were all having a conversation and laughing about a relationship, it could very well mean nothing more than "Do you have a girlfriend". Take it in context.
Well I told her no so I will see what happens from this point on
Yes, I think you need to give this a lot of thought and weigh all the ramifications. The whole dynamic of the presentation of the question needs to be carefully analyzed from the tone of voice to every nuance of body language. Did she lower her voice and lean towards you as she asked? Did she reach out a hand as if to touch you? When you responded in the negative, did the tip of her tongue pop out to lick her lips? You must consider all these things, Grasshopper, and then "see what happens from this point on ..."

Throw her a paper airplane and have her circle yes or no whether she likes you more than a friend. Maybe at lunch you can give her your snackpack as a nice gesture, too.
