I guess there are ways to tell this to your girl. A guy can be blunt or answer with honesty being careful how to say it. Still, it seems some women will feel totally insulted no matter what the answer ir (true or not). If the guy lied to her saying she looked just fine when in reality she was not or if he told her the truth saying she was fat indeed.
I be fine with something like "those aren't the most flattering pants. I really like the way you look in those ones you wore the other night (or dress you like her in or whatever)
That way you are not calling her fat but you are answering honestly in a positive way.

If I ask how I look in something, my boyfriend will tell me the absolute truth, even if it's unflattering. If you ask this sort of question and you're insulted by the answer, then YOU have a problem, not the person answering you.
It beats me why anybody would ask such a question... When I look fat, I know it and have no need to ask about it.
Ditto. I've never asked this question. I all depends on how I feel and don't give a crap how someone might think I "look"
