You know I have a friend who sounds almost exactly like you phil. He mentioned the ability to walk into rooms and no one noticing him. He is also very trained in martial arts. I think it has to do with body language, or lack of it. You probably don't make any eye contact, walk gracefully with minimal movement, dress and look very average. So you blend in. Most people dont look for average, they look for something standing out. Youd probably make a good spy or PI haha.
I have cultivated the ability to fade away since I was a kid, and can be very good at it. People are often startled to find me standing next to them, or fail to notice me even when looking for me.

Hey, you're a man! Many masters of this art among you!
I think they find out outgoing, extroverted, and likeable. I dont think feeling alone in a crowd is out of the norm, it makes sense. Often people in big cities feel alone and alienated even though they are surround by people. Its because their attention is split into other things. Im thinking of eleanor rigby by the beatles.

Wow! THAT was impressive!

Wow again - accurate to a T! Except the clothing - I dress rather oddly - black boots/silver tips and heels (my "claws"), black dress shirt and slacks, one small silver ring, silver ponytail holder. In a club environment with low-lighting levels and tons of mirrors I guess I don't even reflect in the mirrors!
And the PI thing - I worked as a field guy for a PI many moons ago in LA. Ever consider a job in the psychic industry?
Odd you mention that - I've recently had a renewed interest in the Boss of Baker Street - rereading the originals, watching the uncountable movies...it's like when you get a craving for a certain food: I find that I cannot stop myself.
And of course I like to fancy myself worthy of a deerstalker. People-watching is SUCH sport!
I really enjoyed Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. This was a British produced TV series that was on years ago. If you have not caught them they are well worth while. I read the Arthur Conan Doyle's novels back as a young kid and they made quite the impression on me. Perhaps too much.

I'd read that Brett was quite good - after I catch up on the Basil Rathbone B&Ws I plan to check that out. I also finally saw the one with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law - boring in bits, but I loved his pre-fight damage assessment technique!

Did you watch Sherlock on Masterpiece Theater the past few Sundays? It's not exactly canon, but it was a lot of fun.

No, darn it! Didn't even know they were showing it.
