I think its just personality, its not some sort of modern creation. I think your referring to ditsy frivolous women. I dont think they are as substantial a part of the female population as you claim. Go look for different crowds/venues. Your just looking in all the wrong places. Bars = worst place to find a good girl friend imo.

They might not act as over the top as Marilyn in her movies, or like Elle Wood in Legally Blonde or something (both of which I realise are characters) but they have to wear their girlishness on their sleeves. If you pretend not to know what I'm talking about you obviously don't pay much attention to people.
I'm talking about women who seem to fit the portrayal of women in all of those old black and white movies - at least a certain kind of female, sometimes the 'damsel in distress' type, or sometimes the air-headed trophy/wife girlfriend. Women who change their mind at the drop of their hat, can be really indecisive leave everything up to their man, can't think for themselves, get really excitable, seem to get more excited about some cute dress than anything important, often blurt out silly things, engage in most vacuous talk or gossip, or act really fake/giggly...who overall just don't seem very centered or deep. Does this turn some men on, or is it mostly annoying on the whole? Personally I really can't stand it, and it would make even a really beautiful woman not that attractive to me. Maybe some might think these women are being 'feminine' as females should be, and while women on the whole are a bit less this way, I still notice a lot of this behaviour when it comes to courtship/dating...
They probably have been coddled too much, or it's just who they are.
Men can be shallow and gossipy also.
