Gross. Sorry, I don't even like to hug people I know. Please don't hug me until I know you for a long time. If you hug me right awy, I think that you want sex. I am more comfortable with some personal space. But, that is me. I hate random hugs that are meaningless. It must be cultral, because my friend who is Cuban, hugs everyone, all the time.
jasper you may be right, im british but a northener...were known for being alot easier going than our more politically correct southern cousins
ive NEVER associated hugging with sex...
i do have personal space problems, im highly clostraphobic by proximity and suffer from social anxiety...so i tend to get to know people more online before ever meeting them in person...mabe thats why i typically hug more? because meeting someone for the first time ever is PAINFULL for me and a hug generally helps break the ice, i know someone willing to hug me is going to be easier going, and more accepting of my nature once i get to know them better than someone whos a strict handshake person...and because i always know them quite well before meeting them...it doesnt feel weird...
i Love hugs but again never associated a hug with someone wanted to have sex with me...
perhaps its just the way we were raised?
my family is very "huggy" with family and friends.
I would not want a hug the first time meeting. A handshake is fine although I find it business like and most men seem to give me the death grip and crush my hand. So I prefer nothing.
For me it is a hug. Now, we have to rememeber, there are all kinds of different hugs.
1. The full body contact hug with a possible lift of the female gender. (highly inappropriate)
2. The both arms around the top portion of the body only with a small pat on back. (not good)
3. Then there is the side hug. This is a hug where you only do one arm around the person with a small squeeze where both of your faces are kinda looking forward.
I would say a #3 would be appropriate for a first time meet.
