Hi I have a question. I like to go out at to lounges and bars mostly to dance and mingle. I tend to only go by myself, and I am encouraged by some guys friends that I should be having a good time. But I never do because when I go to these places everybody is with there friends and clicks and not mingling. So I end up looking stupid myself. I tend not to go out at night anymore because it is the same result. What is the point of going out if all a person is going to do is talk to their friends all night. Even when my friends come to town and hang out with them at bars, lounges, and clubs. My main purpose is to still go out and mingle. I thought that was suppose to be the point of going out. To have different experiences and conservations with various people and no I am talking about taking people home! Everybody says your young and have fun, but it has been like this since I have graduated from college and now I do mostly day activities and avoid most nightlife. Have anyone else experienced this or feel this way.

So then why not ask your "guy friends" to go with you?

I go out by myself all the time to see bands. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable and awkward, other times I run into people I know and not so much. Usually I know someone in at least one of the bands but it's always hit-n-run, not much opportunity for a decent conversation.

But the going alone part makes it more difficult to meet people than when they are drawn in to a circle of friends.

I live in Chicago. My guys friends live in Detroit or out of State. Plus I am trying to flirt and mingle. I would not want to think I was with someone

Perceptions

Guy alone at the bar after work = having a relaxed drink to wind down the week.

Girl alone at the bar after work = clearly wants to be picked up.

Girl’s CAN’T go to bars on their own without being hassled. It’s a downright pain in the proverbial. I'd love to be able to go to a bar after work and have a nice glass of wine by myself.

Describe the "hassle" if you please.

I'm quite curious of your definition.

“Hey… what’s a pretty girl like you doing here all alone?” type stuff.

No one ever asks a big fat garbageman what he’s doing there all alone.

You should tell the guy to be a little more original.

Haha well I don’t do it! Yeah me too, I have to be a real cow. They just don’t seem to get the point that I am not there to find some manlove, I just want a quiet relaxing drink.
