Here's something interesting...there's a specific area of the brain responsible for recognizing personal space (others') and for recognizing facial and other cues (and holding back from, say, touching other people based on knowledge of boundaries); when it is damaged, these abilities may be absent. ETA: Or at least may function poorly. The test subject had some sort of universal damage to that area.
Interesting stuff. I always knew MIL was damaged. Kidding, folks...kidding...
