Once when I was sick, my boyfriend drove 100 miles to take care of me. He stopped and asked his mom what he should take with him. Orange juice, nyquil, comfort food, stuff to make a homemade pot of soup and books. He took care of me and we lay in bed all day beside each other reading. What a wonderful gift!

The best gift ever?

Well, I'm sure I haven't gotten it yet. Can't wait, I know it will happen some day. I am hopeful. That's kind of cool, still thinking the best is yet to come.

Up till now is easy. My mom was dying and I went to see her one last time. Then I visited with the H about our impending split. I hadn't seen him in months. It was a rough trip.

When I got home and walked into baggage claim there he was. Towering over the crowd. A very tall man with a huge vase of roses and a large smile on his face. He was happy to see me and he actually cared. The roses and detailing my car didn't hurt either. He missed me and was glad I was home. Now that's a gift.

With my SO, it's a tie between the flat-screen HD TV, the audio gear and the Swarovski crystal flamingo. (I collect flamingos.) The audio stuff was a neat surprise. I came home for lunch and there he was, in my living room, all sweaty from lugging it up the stairs and putting it together. He has good taste in jewelry, too.

Years ago, someone gave me a hybrid bicycle for my 30th birthday. That was pretty cool. My sisters kidded me that I shouldn't have broken up with him in March because our first "dating" anniversary would have been in April, when skis go on sale.

And a few years before that, a fellow gave me a VCR, when those were the way to watch movies.

But I do have to say that the Alexandrine parakeet I mentioned in the other thread was actually a beautiful thought from my ex. She was a great bird with him, and she had her sweet moments with me. When we first split up, she stayed with me because he didn't have the room. Unfortunately, she screamed a lot, to the point where my neighbors were giving me dirty looks, so my ex eventually took her. It was heartbreaking to pack up her toys and to separate her from my Nanday. But it was the best for everyone involved, especially her. Now she has a whole family (ex remarried and has kids) and another bird to hang out with. I did get to see her and babysit her a few times over the years, but not since I moved to NY. I wonder how she is and if she still stands in her water bowl cackling like the crazy ol' hen she is.

She's on the left, my Nanday is on the right. She was very gentle when she preened him.

I would assume that you mean something other than sex.

I got a leather jacket from one. The funny thing is, I bought her the same leather jacket.
