Does this happen to any guys who live in apartments?
I posted this on the NY City forum but someone there said they thought it belongs in Relationships instead.
On Thanksgiving i had to work and didn't get much sleep the night before so i got halfway down the block and noticed i forgot my work keys so i turned back for them. As I was coming out of my building a tenant was walking her dog and on her way in. I held the lobby door for her and instead of going in she kind of backs off and hesitated, but i just kept holding it open until she went in. She reluctantly went in but i was kind of offended at her disposition. Being that it was 6:30 AM and still kind of dark and she may not have recognized me as a tenant and I could understand she might be feeling uncomfortable as a woman so early in the AM on a holiday
same night she's walking her dog and I'm walking with my stereo headphones. this time i feel as if i don't have the right to be there and that she thinks i'm following her
just now i'm ready to enter the elevator and i see her coming in from the lobby, but instead i said to myself **** it and didn't bother holding the elevator door for her and go on my way
things like this have happened occasionally. when they do i feel extremely offended by their off-puttingness and even accused
i know it's only non-verbal communication, but have any guys ever experienced this before? and no, I'm not interested in striking up a convo cause i'm not the chatty type. i just don't want to be considered a creep when i'm not this really irks me

Nonverbal communication is just as important (if not more) as any other communication. Even scarier is the nonverbal communication many of them give while they're behind the wheel. Tells me what they REALLY think.

well you are saying
that because i'm not overly friendly in appearance and DO look serious he feels threatened? this is ridiculous because a latina neighbor on my floor always can be near me and appears relaxed with me
this is ridiculous. i haven't done anything to anybody

NYC? I can see how some gals could be skiddish. Don't put so much effort into it next time. She might be married or has a BF. She could think you are trying to hit on her. After some nice gestures with no hitting on her, she will take it for what it is.

Just a simple nod of the head and a "Ma'am Please" as you hold the door will put a lady at ease, without striking up any conversation. Just a small amount of a gentlemanly act goes a long way. You know, "pay it Forward".
I try to hold my tongue when I hold a door open for a lady and they just walk past you as if you owed that act of kindness to them and they don't reply with a simple, "thank you"..

the answer i'd like to hear is that other forums
