In my area, "show" and "movie" are used interchangeably. If it's a concert or a play, we say concert or play, not show.

A show means a movie. It's not an age thing, but it is a regional thing in my experience.

Movie. Motion picture show. Moving picture show.

I've never in my life heard anyone say, "let's see a show" and mean a movie. If they meant "movie" they said "movie."
