Side comment: I think there ought to be a separate "nice guy" thread where this topic can be beaten to death (rather than having it be re-done in every thread -- kind of like they did with the Seattle Freeze thread). But I think the simple answer is what I said, just translate "nice" to "wimpy" and then it all makes sense.

OK, back to the main topic: As for "You Get What You Deserve", "Life Is Fair", "Life Is Unfair", "Everything Has A Reason", etc.:

I don't see why people want to make a one-size-fits-all rule about life. Insecurity? Trying to impose ones values on others? Trying to justify being judgmental? It's a mystery.

Solution: Accept all such rules, then append the disclaimer, "this is true, except when it's not".

And then you have truth.

(Except when you don't.)

Haha! It looks like ninety percent of arguments involve someone giving another label to a word, then a bunch of people arguing past each other because they all find they're using the word in a way they want to but those arguing on the other don't want to descibe it as.
