Oh, sure, me and my daughter say "You Go girl" and "Hey girlfriend" to each other and then laugh...in private, of course. It's a joke between us. To say it seriously? No way!

I don't think anyone say those words in a serious manner.
I call a lot of people "dude," regardless of gender. And as far as guys commenting to guys, I prefer "dude" to "bro."
"You go, girl," and "girlfriend" seem somehow dated, to me. They seem to have gone the way of the triple zig zag snap and swivelly head bob. I don't know anybody who uses those phrases and mannerisms unless they're being intentionally silly.
I've been knowns to call familiar acquaintances "lady," though, as in " Hey, there, lady..."
The male version is 'dude', not boyfriend, although it can be used interchangeably with females. I think the chicks picked up the 'girlfriend' thing from the ****. I'm not sure which one started it.
I am so guilty of saying this. I seem to start a lot of my sentences with "Dude" when talking to my buddies or even the 15 year old. Dont use it at all at work though.
Im thinking that the OP is either in a time warp back in the early 90s because that is when people actually used those terms. Or, it is just his thinly veiled kinda racist attack on black women who back in those days were primarily the ones who used those phrases. Either way, not good.
Maybe I've been watching too much TV lately but I seem to be getting hit with a couple of phrases that are driving me up the wall! I think they're completely stupid and have no idea how they came into vogue.
Does any woman, other than talk show hosts, ever call their friends "Girlfriend"? If I hear one more goofus calling out "Hey Girlfriend", I'm going to scream.
Also, "You Go Girl". Everytime I hear that, I want to barf.
How come guys don't use such cutesy terms. Imagine a burly truckdriver booming out on his CB, "Hey Boyfriend, what's up?"
Are there any guys who salute a pal with "You Go Guy" after he landed a big promotion?
Is anyone brave enough to admit they actually say this crap?
You actually want to be barf at something as negligible as a harmless phrase. You're a joke.

At least you know which immediate phrases to look for in weeding out "real" people versus reality wannabes (sp) ! I usually show my age by looking at people , mouth agape, like they were speaking Mandarin! lol Thank God I'm not in the mindless abyss!
