What a way to start a new year.

I am so, so sorry to read this. I know how easily our furry friends become part of the family and the unconditional love they give is unmatched. It makes it extremely hard when we lose them, especially when they are young and it's sudden.
I hope you find a way to heal from your loss in time. My condolences to you and your family.

Just A Dog
By: Unknown
Don't ever call him, "just a dog.
"Who haven't the eyes to see
That I belong to him as much
As he belongs to me
God must have had His reasons
For making the likes of him
And I humbly hope with all my heart...that I was one of them
The years have dulled his russet color
And his vision is getting dim
And he walks with a limp when the days are cold
Cause the dampness gets to him
He's not as young as he used to be
And his whiskers are frosted white
But he wags his tail as if to say
"You see, I'm still alright.
"I cut his food in bite size chunks
And he gives me a toothless grin
Trusting in my love for him
Whatever shape he's in
He has accepted growing old
The way men cannot do
And I'm not ashamed to say he's taught
Me more than a thing or two
So, don't ever call him "just a dog"
Unless you are prepared
To match his steadfast loyalty
To care the way he's cared
For many the sad offenses
Committed in love's name
And how many times it takes a dog...to put a man to shame!!!!

I'd acquired a rare blood disorder last year and was hoping it was gone for good (was stable with no meds for 9 months), but the first cold/flu triggered it again and I needed blood transfusion. As there are a lot of antibodies in my blood, finding a match is extremely challenging and it may be even impossible to do in a timely fashion, which is the reason I was trying my hardest not to get there again, but my condition deteriorated too rapidly this time.
It's funny how only a couple of weeks ago I was happy about a little windfall and was planning to go to Europe next summer... Heck, I'd gotten as cocky as to think a badly broken nail was a problem about a week ago. Things were put back into perspective for me again real fast!
I'm starting to think I should get rid of that money I mentioned. It's not much, but that's the 4th year I'm getting it and it's gone to nothing other than doctors and dentists. It comes from rented land my mother inherited from her father and I got it after she passed away. She started getting ill at about the time she got it, then my father, and both of them died. I don't know any details, but I had heard some rumor in the family there was some crime involved in acquiring it generations ago... I might give up the rent. I'm not even sure I want that land in my name anymore... My life's been hell ever since I touched that money. I don't know... It's not like the disease will go away... At least it helps with the doctors' bills...

Wow, Sierra I'm so sorry to hear you are going through such a time with your health. Here I was complaining that I've gone to the dr. twice and still have whatever "crud" is going around for 4 weeks now. Surely nothing compared to what you've gone through.
I hope you get to feeling better and your body gets stronger and stronger with each day my friend!

Thank you, sweetie. Well, as I said, it's all a matter of perspective... When things are good, even somewhat minor things feel like huge problems. Heck, as we see on this forum, totally moronic things appear to be problems to some. Hope you get better yourself!

Sierra, I am glad that you are better. Take care of yourself.
Lao, I hate to hear about your dog. Dogs are the closest things to angels on Earth to me. They love us no matter what we have done, what we look like, or even whether we return their love or not.
Everybody else, Happy New Year!
