I agree with this and the comment that prompted it. I have an attention span for people of about two hours, unless I've known them for YEARS.
I am an HSP and INFP and can only take so much. With email and forums, I can turn things on and off at will without offending anyone. It's not that I don't relate well (when I choose to relate well with people), it's just often I prefer my own company. As an introvert, I recharge my battery by being ALONE.

I keep reading the thread title as, "Are people on CD socialist?"
Per the actual topic...I'm pretty social. I have a boyfriend, dog, go places, do things. We go out to eat a lot, go to concerts, travel a ton, etc. I won't turn down social opportunities specifically so I can hang out online (although I will turn down social opportunities if they suck, and often would rather be at home reading, online or otherwise).
But I do appreciate forums, have for years. I started messageboarding (not on city-data) when I was in my early twenties and living and working in a remote local where there weren't many people my age around to do things with. So I did a lot of my socializing online, versus hang out alone and be truly antisocial all the time. I'm a reader and a writer, and like a lively written conversation. Forums are good like that, or can be once you filter out the idiots. I also like how it allows me to make friends and get to know people I wouldn't have known, otherwise. Which makes it a pretty social pursuit.

That reminds of when I was younger. The guys would dress up in swords and shields and grab the battle axes. After a few days in the Longboats we would have a blast pillaging and razing cities throughout Europe and Britain. It was all good fun. Other people said we were acting antisocial and refused to understand . It was not like we had this "innertube" thingy the kids have these days to occupy the time.

I know plenty of people personally whose lives seem pretty perfect. They don't have abusive families or terminal illnesses so really what else can they be hiding?

It's human nature. Even the person in a "perfect life" will find something to be miserable about.

I once called a crisis line when my dad was dying and I'd fired off some nasty emails to family. I was mortified. The other guy on the end of the line told me he could find a DSM IV diagnosis in EVERYONE in the population if he wanted to. I believe him. There is no "normal." Normal is a setting on a washing machine.
CD people are not anti-social. They may be bored with TV, news, other people yet still want actual conversation. That is not anti-social or abnormal.

I have a long term bf, dog, friends, go to school, work and go out a few times a week to bars, clubs, team sports, friend's houses and of course out to eat regularly at nice places. I just find the discussion on CD interesting and thought provoking. Do you think City Data attracts people who are not good at socializing???

OP, if you're only visiting one or two of the fora, you're not getting a good cross-section of the entire C-D audience. I don't spend much time in the Relationships forum, but I do spend time in some other fora where people are very sociable, have busy social lives outside their PCs, and often meet up in person with other C-D'ers.
